(Three Day holiday weekend is coming up)...The Memorial Day Weekend begins Friday evening.

The California Highway Patrol starts it off. They will be going into their Maximum Enforcement Period at 6 Friday evening. The MEP will last throughout the holiday weekend. The MEP is when the CHP assigns as many patrol units to the roadways as possible. It is a holiday enforcement period in which the Highway Patrol is extra vigilant, especially for DUI's, seatbelt violations and distracted driving. Almost all government departments and agencies will be closed Monday, and all schools will be out. Some private businesses will also recognize Memorial Day. Ceremonies are also traditional on Memorial Day. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9305 will host a Memorial Day Ceremony Monday. The Program starts at 9 am at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro. Captain Ryan Carstens, Commanding Officer of the Naval Air Facility El Centro will present a short address as part of the program. The City of El Centro will host a Memorial Day ceremony at the Veteran's Memorial Wall at Bucklin Park at 10:00 a.m. Ceremonies are also normally held at Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico and at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.
