The El Centro City Council has appointed Michael Crankshaw to fill a vacancy on the council.

Crankshaw was selected following interviews of 8 potential candidates. The appointment was made on a 4 - 0 vote at a special council meeting Wednesday. Crankshaw has served as a Commander with the El Centro Police Department, Chief of Police for the City of Brawley and Interim Chief of Police for the City of Imperial. Mayor Pro Tem Sonia Carter said, " Michael Crankshaw is a respected leader with deep roots in our region and a lifetime of service to the Imperial Valley. His experience in public safety and education will bring valuable insight to the Council as we continue to work toward making a strong future for El Centro". The council vacancy was created with the resignation of Tomas Oliva. The new Council Member will be sworn in at a Special Meeting on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in City Council Chambers. The Council will also conduct a reorganization to select a new mayor for the rest of the year.
