Calexico Police are investigating a fatal hit and run accident.

At about 6:19 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to the report of a man down near State Route 111 just south of Jasper Road. Officers found an unresponsive man dead near the east shoulder of the road. Preliminary investigation indicates that the man was struck by a vehicle while standing near his parked vehicle. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene. Based on evidence at the scene, investigators believe the victim was struck by a black Volvo semi-truck. The big rig is likely to have damage to the right front bumper and fender area. Calexico Police are investigating the incident as a vehicular homicide and are asking that anyone with any information contact the Calexico Police Department Investigations Bureau.
