An El Centro homeless encampment caught fire Tuesday.

El Centro Fire Department responded to the encampment along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks between Heil and Hamilton Avenues at about 10:30 a.m. The fire was quickly contained but not before an Imperial Irrigation District power pole caught fire. Union Pacific officials were notified of the incident by the City. The City of El Centro said that they are concerned about the ongoing issue of illegal encampments along the UPRR property and urged residents to report illegal encampments along the railroad right-of-way directly to Union Pacific on their website.
