A Monday afternoon traffic accident resulted in major injuries.

The accident occurred shortly before 4:00 p.m. on State Route 86 near Brawley Avenue in the Salton City area. A vehicle went out of control and smashed into a guard rail. One victim was flown from the site by REACH Air Ambulance. The highway was blocked for a short time to allow the helicopter to land and evacuate the victim. The accident remains under investigation.
