(Niland suspect 22-year-old Johvan Herrero was arraigned on one count of murder recently.

He is suspected of fatally stabbing 28-year-old Nicholas Spence in Calipatria. In court, the suspect was advised of his rights and the charge against him. 25-year-old Xochitl Rendon was also in court with Herrero. She is charged as an accessory after the fact. Both Herrero and Rendon are residents of Niland. The District Attorney's Office says Herrero could face additional charges. He is currently in jail with bail set at $1 million. Rendon is also in county jail. Her bail is $50,000. Rendon is expected back in court later this month. Herrero's next court date is in early February.
