A series of three incidents shut down Interstate 8 Friday night.
The incidents also stretched emergency resources. The series of events started with a traffic stop near Ocotillo. The driver of the car was not cooperating with officers and traffic was stopped while the situation was resolved. At about 9:25 p.m., an accident involving multiple vehicles at Interstate 8 and Dunaway Road was reported. Multiple injuries resulted with one victim flown to an out-of-Valley hospital by REACH Air Ambulance and 4 others taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Traffic on both east and westbound lanes of Interstate 8 was shutdown for an extended time as emergency personnel worked at the scene.
Shortly before 10:00 p.m. another accident was reported on Interstate 8 just west of Ocotillo. Three vehicles were involved and multiple injuries were reported. Traffic was backed up as the vehicles blocked the eastbound lanes. One person was life-flited from the scene by Mercy Air.
Multiple agencies responded to the accidents including the California Highway Patrol, Imperial County Fire, U.S. Border Patrol, Imperial County Sheriff's Office, AMR Ambulance, NAF El Centro, REACh Air and Mercy Air Helicopters
