U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have issued a warning about a nationwide scam.

CBP officials continue to receive calls from people concerned about unsolicited phone calls from scammers posing as U.S. Border Patrol agents or CBP officers. The callers are asking for information about suspected illegal activity. If CBP suspects illegal activity, they will not calla suspect or a victim requesting money or social security numbers. CBP will not make a telephone call threatening citizens that law enforcement is on the way or promising money for information. If you receive a call about a shipment of drugs or money, it is a scam. Do not provide the caller with any information. CBP won't call you out of the blue with threats or promises of money. CBP never uses gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers. Don't trust caller ID as scammers can spoof numbers to be genuine. If you receive a suspected scammer call, just hang up.
