An El Centro house was extensively damaged in a Sunday fire.

A resident of the home in the 2300 block of Sandalwood called 9-1-1 to report that they could smell smoke. On arrival, El Centro firefighters fond thick black smoke and flames emanating from the house. Imperial County Fire Department responded with mutual aid. Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze and worked to protect neighboring homes. There were no injuries reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
