(As of July, Calexico Police Department secures almost 3/4 off a million dollars in DUI enforcement grants)....The $745,000 in DUI enforcement grants are from the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program.

The funds have been allocated to various initiatives, including the purchase of a new Ford F-150 pursuit vehicle, officer training in DUI enforcement, overtime to backfill and DUI saturation patrols, the employment of private detention officers and a paid reserve officer program, which has created 3 par-time reserve officer positions. The Calexico Police Officers Association is urging the City Council and the public to support a full-time grant-writing position to be filled by a sworn officer. The position would enable the department to apply for and manage additional grants.
