Over 80 pounds of methamphetamine and nearly 47 pounds of cocaine were stopped at the San Luis, Arizona, port of entry.
The two separate seizures were made last Friday. The first smuggling attempt occurred at about 6:00 a.m. when a 37-year-old man, a U.S. citizen, driving a pickup truck, was referred to secondary inspection. A non-intrusive inspection revealed irregularities in the tires of the truck. CBP officers were able to locate over 80 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of nearly $170,000.
The second incident occurred just moments later when a 46-year-old man, a U.S. citizen, driving a pickup truck was referred to secondary inspection. A CBP K-9 Team alerted to the truck and officers located approximately 47 pounds of cocaine hidden in a speaker box. The cocaine has a street value of nearly $500,000.
Both men were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
