Hetzel Pretzel: Local History with a Twist will open Friday. at the Pioneers' Museum.
The exhibition is a one-of-a-kind show featuring works from the Pioneering Justice team of artists and other invited artists. The show presents a contemporary art showcase where local artists reimagine the iconic photography of Leo Hetzel, a most prolific photographer who chronicled life in the Imperial Valley from the 1910s through the 1940s. Hetzels iconic images capture the people and the life of the early Imperial County.
Additionally, the Pioneering Justice team will unveil their Imperial County Map Quilt, a collaborative masterpiece created by designer Nissim Quzan and artist Susana Martinez. The quilt was fabricated by the team and more than a dozen volunteers. The quilt serves as a symbolic map of Imperial County, underscoring the interconnectedness and unity of the community.
The exhibition will open on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 7PM to 11 PM. Admission is free and their willl be food and beverages. The exhibition continues through July.
