The California Highway Patrol has released more information about a Sunday morning fatal accident.

The accident was reported at about 4:44 a.m. Sunday morning on Austin Road north of Even Hewes Highway. Preliminary investigation suggests that a pickup truck was west bound on a dirt road east of Austin Road and, for an unknown reason, apparently drove straight into the Central Main Canal. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
