Imperial Police are investigating a hit and run accident that injured an 8-year-old boy.

The accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Barioni Boulevard and D Street. The boy was struck by a white Hyundai Elantra which fled the scene of the accident. Officers combed the area for about 45 minutes looking for the Hyundai before the car and driver returned to the scene. The driver, 19-year-old Hanna West, of Imperial, was taken into custody and booked at Imperial County Jail on charges of Felony Hit and Run. The boy was flown to Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego for treatment.
