The Imperial Irrigation District is asking electric customers to voluntarily conserve energy.

Due to extreme heat expected over the next week, the IID will issue a Conserve Alert notification beginning Monday, June 24 through Tuesday, July 2. The National Weather Service forecast for the Imperil Valley over those days calls for sunny skies and very hot temperatures with highs 107 - 118. IID Energy Manager Matt Smelser said, " Although we do not foresee any generation resource shortages at tis time, by issuing an IID Conserve Alert, we are asking customers to do what they can to help the local electric grid. By conserving energy, we can take stress off energy infrastructure and help maintain reliable energy delivery and avoid power outages.

To conserve energy customers are asked to avoid using major appliances between peak hours of 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Set thermostats at 78 degrees or higher when home. Turn off all unnecessary lights. Use floor or ceiling fans. Block the sun from overheating your home.
