Yuma Fire Department (YFD) knocked down a brush fire the threatened nearby homes.

The fire was reported at about 1:00 a.m on Saturday in the area of 14th Avenue and 18th Place. The fire had consumed about 1 1/2 acres when firefighters arrived and was advancing towards nearby homes. YFD crews were able to contain the fire to about 2 acres and keep it away from the homes. No personal property or homes were damaged. Crews remained on the scene overnight to make sure the blaze didn't rekindle. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
