Border Patrol agents seized 67 pounds of cocaine at the Highway 86 Checkpoint Monday.
At about 2:50 p.m., a car approached the checkpoint and a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the vehicle. In secondary inspection, the driver admitted to having marijuana and a firearm in his backpack. After the marijuana and firearm were removed from the car, a second sweep by a K-9 was conducted and again the dog alerted to the car. Agents noticed that the floorboards had apparently been tampered with and a further search led to the discovery of an aftermarket compartment that contained 25 packages that contained a total of 67 pounds of cocaine. The driver, firearm and drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
