A suspect has been arrested for an April attempted murder in Brawley.

On April 13, 2024, a vehicle pulled up in front of the Brawley Police Department with a woman passenger that had been shot. The woman was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Brawley Police Investigators were able identify the alleged shooter. On Friday, May 10, 2024, at about 5:30 p.m., a Brawley Police officer on patrol recognized the suspect. The suspect tried to run but was taken into custody in the 500 block of Main Street. Michael Ortiz, 30, of Brawley, was booked into Imperial County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is being held on $1 million bail.
