(Suspect leads police on a wild chase)......A vehicle had been reported stolen in El Centro.

Calexico Police noticed the vehicle on Kloke Road in the Border City. The driver of the vehicle ignored the police command for him to stop. Instead, he fled the scene. The high-speed pursuit went to Highway 98 to Interstate 8 and past Ocotillo. For safety concerns, police called off the pursuit. The chase resumed hours later when the vehicle was once again spotted in Calexico. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot near the Central Main Canal. He was found hiding in the brush near the canal. The suspect, 38-year-old Darius Lackey of Riverside County, was being charged with auto theft, felony evading and assault. The suspect was handed over to El Centro Police for processing. The vehicle was returned to its owner.
