The El Centro Police Department has released video of an officer-involved shooting.

The shooting occurred on August 31, 2023 in the 1900 block of Ocotillo Drive. The redacted video is available on the El Centro Police Departments Facebook page. The incident remains under investigation by the California Department of Justice's Police Shooting Investigation Team and no other details have been released by either the State of California or the City of El Centro. In the incident, Elizondro Vargas was fatally shot by an El Centro Police officer after he was confronted by officers responding to the report of a theft from a nearby store. According to ECPD, Vargas was wielding a brick and refused to comply with officers demands that he drop the brick.
