California Correctional Institution Tehachapi officials are investigating the death of an inmate.

On Wednesday morning, November 22, 2023, two incarcerated people attacked David Moreno. Moreno was stabbed numerous times. Moreno died rom his wounds. Three inmate manufactured weapons were  recovered at the scene. Prison officials removed two inmates to restricted housing. One of the suspects is 41-year-old Armando Taylor. Taylor is serving a life sentence with possibility of parole after being convicted of a murder in Imperial County. Taylor and three others were involved in the July 2017 murder of Adam Walker in Salton City. In 2020, he received one year for in-prison offense of battery on a non-prisoner. In July 2022, he received an additional 4 years for another prison assault. The other suspect is Carlos Cervantes. He is serving a life sentence without possibility of parole from Kern County.
