They are the latest numbers available. The numbers were released by the Labor Market Information Division of the Employment Development Department. According to the numbers, August Unemployment was 19.7 percent. That is up from the revised 18 percent in July, and above the year ago estimate of 17%. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 5.1% for California and 3.9% for the nation during the same period. According to the latest report, there were 14,200 eligible workers unemployed out of a labor force of 71,900.
