With the threat of flooding from Hurricane Hillary, Imperial County and Valley cities are making sandbags available.

Imperial County Fire Department and Office of Emergency Services has geared up for the expected punch of the hurricane. Free sandbags and sand will be available to residents of the unincorporated communities of the County. The sandbags and sand will be available at the County Fire Stations throughout the Valley from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The City of El Centro will have sand and bags available at 5th and Olive from Noon - 8:00 p.m. Friday. Imperial is providing sand and bags at the City Yard, Calipatria will have the sand and bags available Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. Both Brawley Fire Stations will have sandbags available Friday until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the City Public Works yard on Friday until 8:00 p.m.  The Calexico main Fire Station will have the bags and sand available from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

There is a limit on the number of sandbags available, 10 at most locations, and you must fill your own bags so remember to bring a shovel.
