(Sink Hole in Calexico has been repaired)...Construction was completed over the weekend.

The intersection of First Street and Heber Avenue has been reopened. The sink hole was the most recent of three reported in that location. The city called in A&R Construction, who brought in the necessary equipment. Along with their crews and city employees, it was discovered there were several issues causing the repeated sink holes. The found an abandoned and corroded cast iron force main collapsing. A 12 inch diameter branch wye fitting was in an open position allowing water to saturate and wash away dirt, and the existing storm drain manhole structure had several visible breaks. All the issues were repaired at a cost of $200,000. The financially strapped city used funds from the American Rescue Plan Act funds that had been set aside in March of last year for downtown revitalization.
