Weist Lake is closed to the public.

The Imperial County Department of Public Works and the County Health Department have closed the lake as the Health Department's Environmental Division monitors the keys conditions. State officials conducting testing at the lake north of Brawley earlier this week to determine if the water quality of the lake meets the thresholds for recreational activity. Results are expected by next week.

The Public Works Department is working to increase the flow of fresh water into the lake to improve conditions. The county expects the increased flows will continue through the summer. Meanwhile, signs have been posted around the lake warning people to avoid water contact.
