(National Peace Officer week is winding down)...It began in Imperial County last Saturday.

US Customs and Border Protection, Port of Calexico officers entered two teams in the 14th annual Law Enforcement Relay Run. It was hosted by the US Border Patrol's El Centro Sector. The event honored the lives and careers of fallen Law Enforcement officers. Before the 24 mile relay race began, 25 coed teams gathered in El Centro for introductions. The event was attended by Calexico Port Director Roque Caza. The US Border Patrol Calexico Station emerged victorious. El Centro Sector Border Patrol Special Operations Division and the California Highway Patrol came in second and third, respectively. Each Baton was signed by the participating officers and presented to the families of the fallen, along with an official letter of recognition. The signatures on the batons served as symbols of honor, respect and solidarity.
