(IID Directors agreed to the offer earlier this week)...The Department of Interior announced the offer Monday.
The Imperial IUrrigation District Directors held a special meeting Tuesday afternoon. At that meeting, the board voted to accept the deal. Issence the feds will provide $250 million over a four year period, in exchange for 250,000 acre feet of water to go towards the drought stricken Colorado River. The agreement has been approved, but now the details need to be worked out. Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia supports the agreement. He said it was encouraging to have $250 million from the feds, in addition to the $600 million recently committed by the state for reparations at the Salton Sea. The Salton Sea Authority has said they would like to be involved in the program agreed to.
