( Over $12 million in narcotics seized)...It happened earlier this month at the Otay Mesa Port.
A 37 year old truck driver with a valid crossing card was driving a 2009 Freightliner with a shipment manifested as heavy machinery gears. Customs officers at the commercial facility sent the rig for a more detailed inspection. During the inspection, officers noticed one of the gears appeared different from the rest. Further inspection of the gear resulted in the discovery of 362 packages of cocaine, weighing over 870 pounds, and 18 packages containing fentanyl, weighing almost 42 pounds from inside the heavy machinery. The estimated value of the seized narcotics was set at $12.8 million. The driver was turned over to ICE for further processing, CBP seized the narcotics and the truck and trailer.
