(Independence Day Weekend)...It is one of the biggest holidays of the year.
The California Highway Patrol says they will go into their Maximum Enforcement at 6:00 pm Friday. It will continue until 11:59 Monday night. Maximum Enforcement is when the Highway Patrol schedules as many officers as possible to patrol the roadways. The CHP will be enforcing all traffic laws, with a special focus on speeding, and driving under the influence. Seatbelt enforcement will also be a concern. The CHP says last year during the 4th of July weekend, 43 people were killed in traffic collisions throughout the state. More than a third of thse were not wearing their seatbelts. During the 3 day weekend last year, the Highway Patrol issued around 10,000 citations for traffic violations statewide.
