A brush fire continues to burn near the town of Seeley.

The Imperial County Fire Department late Wednesday evening ordered the evacuation of all those west of San Diego Avenue in the township of Seeley. The evacuees were initially being asked to go to Sunbeam Lake and than an evacuation center was set up at Wilson Jr High School in El Centro where the Red Cross is providing assistane. As of midnight the fire was said to be 40% contained. Fire fighters and equipment from CalFire San Diego and the City of San Diego Fire Department responded with a Strike Team to assist Imperial County fire departments that responded. 

The fire was initially reported at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and crews were on the scene until about 10:00 a.m. The fire rekindled and fire crews returned to the scene at about 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. Almost immediatly a third alarm was issued and then at about 5:00 p.m. a fourth alarm went out. Imperial County Fire requested a Strike Team at about 9:00 p.m. The fire crossed the river bottom and burned several fields and moved toward the townsite of Seeley which prompted the evacuations. Some of the fire crews started to be released at about 2:00 a.m. 

Air quality in the Imperial Valley has been affected by the fire as the City of El Centro and most other parts of the county were blanketed by smoke from the fire.
