Yuma Fire Department responded to two separate house fires Tuesday afternoon.

The first fire was reported at about 12:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of Mesa Avenue. A fire that was burning in the backyard spread to the house. As firefighters were battling this blaze a second house fire was reported in the 8800 block of East 24th Place. The fire was located in the attic of the house. In addition to Yuma Fire personnel, assistance was requested from Rural Metro Fire and Yuma Marine Corps Air Station with an engine from Imperial County Fire covering the Yuma Station 1 firehouse. Cause of both fires is under investigation.
