U.S. Representative Raul Ruiz, D-Calif, has cosponsored a bill to create a new National Historic Park honoring Cesar Chavez.
Congress is considering the new bill to honor Chavez and the farmworker movement. The new park would include the existing national monument in Keene, California, plus the site of the first headquarters of the farmworkers union in Delano, California, and the Santa Rita Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The bill would also establish a national historic trail along the 300-mile march route taken by farmworkers between Delano and Sacramento in 1966. MvDonnell Hall in SanJose is likely to be added to the park in the future.
