The United States Marine Corps has confirmed that five Marines died in the Wednesday afternoon crash of a VM-22 Osprey.
The crash occurred at about 12:30 p.m. in the desert near Glamis. The Osprey, assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 39 based at Camp Pendelton, was operating during a training exercise in the desert. All five crewmembers aboard the tilt-roter aircraft perished in the crash. Marine Corps crews are currently at the crash site investigating the incident and retrieving wreckage.
