Early results from the 18th State Senate District race show Democrat Steve Padila with a significant lead.

Padilla has a 700-vote edge in Imperial County but in San Diego County, where the majority of voters are, the Democrat leads Republican challenger Alejandro Galicia by a wide margin, 61% to 38% of the votes counted so far.
