(Arrest at the Highway 86 checkpoint)....It happened recently.

A 2016 Acura pulled up to the checkpoint near Salton City. The vehicle was sent to the secondary inspection area. A K-9 Team alerted to the drivers side of the vehicle. Border Patrol agents began searching the vehicle. They found a red backpack in the rear seats. Inside the backpack, agents found 12 small bundles wrapped in black electrical tape. Also in the backpack, agents found a loaded, unregistered 9 mm pistol. Almost $7,900 in cash was found in the glove compartment of th vehicle. Some of the bundles contained methamphetamine valued at approximately $898, others contained fentanyl valued at approximately $17,250. The driver of the vehicle, a 41 year old US citizen, the seized items and the vehicle were all turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
