(A US Citizen Arrested)...Border Patrol agents made the arrest.
The agents were conducting anti-smuggling operations at the time. Late Sunday afternoon, agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a gray SUV in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8, near Gordon's Well exit Agents turned on the lights and siren, but the vehicle failed to stop. A Customs and Border Protection helicopter was in the area, and was called in to assist in the pursuit of the suspect vehicle. Other agents set up vehicle demobilization devices ahead of the pursuit. The suspect vehicle ran over the devices, puncturing all four tires, but the vehicle continued to evade the agents. The vehicle began to slow as the tires began to come apart. Two passengers were seen jumping from the vehicle. One of the passengers tried to run. After a brief pursuit, both passenger were in custody. The driver of the suspect vehicle finally pulled over and was also arrested. The driver turned out to be a US Citizen. The other two were Mexican Nationals. Neither had the proper documents to be in the United States. The two Mexican nationals were taken to the hospital for non life threatening medical attention. The 30 year old driver was arrested and will face federal charges.
