U. S. Border Patrol agents seized over $800,000 worth of drugs Saturday morning.
A pickup truck entered the Highway 86 Checkpoint near Salton City, California at about 8:40 a.m. The truck was referred to secondary inspection where a K-9 Detection Team alerted to the vehicle. There were four tires in the bed of the pickup and closer inspection led to the discovery of over 50 pounds of methamphetamine and more than 39 pounds of fentanyl hidden in the tires. The meth has an estimated value of over $126,000 and the fentanyl is said to have a street value of nearly $690,000. The driver of the pickup, a 31-year-old man, a U.S. citizen, was arrested and turned over to the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
