Governor Gavin Newsom has proposed an $11 Billion relief package for Californians paying higher gas prices.
One part of the plan will bring vehicle owners up to two $400 rebates per vehicle. Eligibility will be based on vehicle registration. The Governor's proposal does not have an income cap. Cost of the rebates is estimated at $9 Billion. The refund will be in the form of $400 debit cards. Other provisions of the Governor's proposal include three months of free public transportation, fast-tracking electric vehicle incentives and charging stations, and new funding for local biking and walking projects.
The Newsom administration will meet with the Legislature to negotiate the specifics of the proposal.
