The California Highway Patrol has released more information on the Monday night fatal traffic accident.

According to the CHP, at about 6:20 p.m. Monday a tractor trailer rig driven by Jorge A. Valdez, 34, of Calexico, was northbound on Highway 86 near Desert Shores Drive when he struck a pedestrian who was in the traffic lanes. The unidentified pedestrian sustained fatal injuries on impact. Northbound Highway 86 traffic was shut down until nearly midnight because of the accident. According to the CHP, impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
