(Rescue near Niland)...It happened Sunday morning.

The County Sheriff's Office notified the El Centro Sector Border Patrol office that 3 surveyors were lost and needed assistance. The 3 are employees of Controlled Thermal Resources. Agents working the Highway 111 checkpoint and the El Centro BORSTAR unit were dispatched to the area. The 3 had become disoriented in the thick brush and mud in the area near the Salton Sea. The BORSTAR Unit arrived at the swampy area at just before 10 am. After about an hour of searching, the 3 were located and safely extracted from the area. All 3 were medically evaluated and cleared. Since October, the El Centro Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 30 individuals who have been lost or in distress.
