(The local holiday parades begin Friday)....It will be a parade of lights.
The Naval Air Facility El Centro kicks off the annual Holiday season parades. The annual NAF Parade of Lights starts at 7:00 pm. The parade is held on the Navy Base. The base invites Imperial Valley residents to join Sailors and their families on the installation for this seasonal start of the parade season. The NAF Parade has nearly 25 floats and marching groups scheduled to move through the base. In addition to local school marching bands, a classic car club, civic agencies, and the world famous 501 Star Wars costuming group. KXO Radio's Gene Brister will return to his traditional role of announcer. Following the parade, Captain William Perkins, NAF Commanding Officer, will oversee a special lighting ceremony opening the holiday season as only the US Navy can. Gates open to the public at 6:00 pm, and families are encouraged to bring their own chairs to watch the parade in comfort. Food and beverages will be available for sale.
