A Yuma house undergoing renovations was heavily damaged in a Monday evening fire.

The fire was reported shortly after 7:00 p.m. in the 1800 block of South 2nd Avenue. Upon arrival , Yuma fire personnel found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters protected neighboring structures and were able to bring the fire under control in 30 - 40 minutes. The house sustained significant damage including portions of the roof collapsing. Investigators determined that workers doing renovations to the house had left the house about an hour prior to the fire being reported. The fire originated in an interior wall and progressed rapidly to the attic. Investigators determined that there were no indications that the fire was intentionally set.
