(A chance of rain changed into a certainty)....Weather forecast for Friday was for a 43% chance of rain.
By mid-morning, that changed to 100%. The rains began sporadically in the morning and then spread to most areas of the county by 9:00 am. A Flash Flood Watch was issued by the National Weather Service for most of Imperial County until 12 noon. At 9:00 am the National Weather Service extended the Flash Flood Watch until 7 Friday evening. By mid-mo0rning more than an inch and a half of rain had fallen, and they expected more than an inch more rain by Friday night. Flash Flood areas of concern are Highways 78, 86, 98, 111 and Interstate 8. The warning is that motorists do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways. The Weather Service says the rain should diminish as the day progresses.
