The California Highway Patrol and the Imperial County Coroner's Office are investigating an early morning accident that claimed a life.

Initial reports indicate the accident was reported shortly after 1:00 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 111 near Rutherford Road. One person was found in the roadway with fatal injuries. The highway was closed in both north and southbound directions from Del Rio Road to Rutherford Road for the investigation into the accident. Authorities are looking for a vehicle , possibly a big rig , with major front end damage. No other information is available at this time. The investigation is on-going.
