The El Centro Fire Department released more information on the Wednesday afternoon fire.
The fire was reported at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when an El Centro {Police officer on patrol noticed smoke coming from the A-American Self-Storage at 1299 N. Imperial Avenue. El Centro Fire responded to the site and found a single-story steel frame building with heavy smoke showing. A second-alarm was requested and shortly after that went to three-alarm status. Firefighters and equipment from the Cities of Imperial , Calexico , Brawley , Holtville and Westmorland as well as Imperial County Fire Department and NAF-El Centro Fire and crews from Centinela and Calipatria State Prisons. A total of 37 firefighters were on scene at the height of the blaze. Crews were able to clear from the scene shortly before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Three firefighters received minor injuries and are expected to fully recover. Cause of the fire remains under investigation. A total of 90 storage units were affected by the fire with 40 suffering heavy fire damage.
