U.S. Border Patrol agents thwarted two human smuggling attempts.

On Thursday morning Border Patrol agents stopped an SUV on eastbound Interstate 8 near Wellton , Arizona. Two U.S. citizens , the driver and a front seat passenger , and five migrants , three of them hiding in the rear cargo area , were detained. The driver and front seat passenger were arrested while three of the immigrants face possible charges of re-entry after being removed.

A report of suspicious activity near Calexico , California led to the arrest of two individuals. Agents , aided by a USBP air unit , followed the car from Calexico on eastbound Interstate 8 to Yuma , where the car was stopped. The 20-year old driver and an 18-year old passenger , both U. S. citizens from California , were arrested. Two migrants were detained. The two U. S. citizens were found to have been previously arrested for smuggling.
