(Funeral assistance bill makes it out of it's first committee)...The bill was authored by Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia.

AB 868 would establish an Emergency Funerasl Expenses Fund for the State of California. It has cleared the Assembly Committee on Human Services. The funeral assistance fund would reimburse low-income families for funeral expenses when the cause of death is directly related to a Governor-declared state of emergency and retroactively provides monetary assistance for COVID 19 related deaths. Significantly, Garcia says program would extend relief to Californians regardless of documentation status, including vulnerable, heavily impacted population left out of FEMA's COVID 19 funeral assistance. AB 868 now goes to the Assembly Business and Professions Committee
