(CBP says be aware)...It is a new type of scam.
Customs and Border Protection says scammers are calling people, impersonating CBP officers. The nationwide scam is an attempt to gain banking information. The calls are pre-recorded messages that say a box of drugs and money is being shipped and has the victim's name on it and it has been intercepted. The victim is instructed to press one to speak with an officer or agent, who attempt to gfet the victim's banking information. The CBP says the calls are scams and they urge everyone not to give any information. The CBP says they or the Department of Homeland Security nbever solicit money over the phone. If you receive such a call, it is suggested to write down the telephone number and any details you can remember, hang up and report the incident. Phone scams can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission.
