Interstate 8 nighttime full freeway closures begin Wednesday.

Caltrans crews will close all lanes on eastbound Interstate 8 from Forrester Road to 4th Street Wednesday , March 24 , 2021. The closures will be in effect from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. One lane of westbound I-8 will also be closed during this time period. The closure is needed for crews to install falsework for the Imperial Avenue Interchange Project. Westbound I-8 from 4th Street to Forrester road will be closed on Thursday and Sunday from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. There are also tentative plans to close the same section of eastbound Interstate 8 overnight on Wednesday , March 31 , 2021 during the same times. 

For eastbound closures traffic will be detoured to exit at Forrester Road , go north to Even Hewes Highway and then east to State Route 86 / 4th Street and back to I-8.

Westbound traffic will be detoured at State Route 86 / 4th Street , north to Adams Avenue / Even Hewes Highway and then west to Forrester Road. The Interstate 8 / Imperial Avenue Interchange Project will see access to Imperial Avenue south of the freeway when the City of El Centro completes the project. Demolition and construction of the old interchange began in the Spring of 2020.
