The winds, topping at over 47 miles per hour created a massive dust storm. Visibility was at zero at times. At around 5:15 pm the California Highway Patrol and CalTrans shut down a portion of Highway 86. Northbound traffic was rerouted to Highway 111 in Westmorland. Southbound traffic was turned around at the Riverside County line. The closure lasted for over 2 hours.
